Upgrades can sometimes increase the stats of a piece of gear and sometimes even its extras. The worth of these upgrades is determined by their tiers, requirements and the number of random augmentations that are applied.

For instance, the top racial shield Razortail is commonly upgraded for its lightning absorb ability in PvP or to provide additional defenses to missile-based designs in PvM. This makes it more marketable over the original version that is not upgraded.

Reroll Tokens

Reroll tokens permit you to reroll a purchased item, like armor, weapon, or ring. The item is replaced with another of the same kind however with different benefits. Reroll tokens can be an economical method of upgrading equipment. They don't maintain the original equipment's condition and any money wasted will not be refunded.

The survivors can acquire reroll tokens by a variety of means like the Mistery Box or as rare drops from skulled creatures. It will also display the amount of Growth Stones required to do so. The amount of Growth Stones required to upgrade a piece of gear will depend on its rarity. Rare (blue), rarer weapons will require more than one Growth Stone, while uncommon armor only requires a single Growth Stone.

Upgrade components are a form of equipment that can slot into armors, weapons trinkets, tools for gathering and weapons to provide an additional benefit or bonus while the equipment is equipped. They can be purchased from vendors, looted or obtained through questing. They can also be traded between players. upgrade item components can be replaced by new ones, but doing so will damage the previous upgrade, excluding for glyphs which can be removed and replaced freely.

Upgrades can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity. Some upgrade components come with additional modifiers that can boost the stats of the item upgrades.

The upgrade to the helm "Foundation of the Sun" for instance, increases the base defense and provides an additional 20 percent chance to block. Additionally, the dps upgrade "Wildfire" increases damage to weapons.

Upgrades can be beneficial for certain items, but they are not because they increase stats. They are more valuable to players if they can get a perfect roll. A perfectly rolled 200/6500 armor set piece, for example is highly sought-after by the melee PvP communities and can be worth up to 20-50 times that of the unupp'd version.

The game will display the requirements when you select the upgrade component that is incorporated into the item. These include the item type (either Armor or Weapon) and the tier of the item and the Upgrade Token required, as well as the amount of progress needed to complete the upgrade.
