World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.
Upgrading gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next Best item upgrader by a specified amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. This value is the total of all the upgraded advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is because of how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell gear players can look at the levels of the item. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an item upgrading and how much damage it will be capable of causing. Comparing items from the inventory of a vendor can be done using the level of the item.
On your PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering an Item Upgrader Kit with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are a variety of theories on the method by which the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the Best item upgrader level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values, and also that gems in sockets add to the value of the item overall. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is usually close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
However, this isn't the only factor that affects an item upgrade's ilvl, as the size of the area the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, such as by adding a level to its haste rating or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat modifications of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's skill.
Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. An item that is white or grey for instance, can only be upgraded one time however, items that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Another method to alter the stats on an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all sizes and shapes. The affixes can provide the item additional damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding an additional name to the item.
Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circles arrows. It will cost a set amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges just like the other rerolling methods.
In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which of the available stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However every item will have at least one stat in the same range, unless it's an exclusive item, or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be altered by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. Similar to the base equipment, this must be done per item and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player increases the probability of obtaining items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players a chance to acquire better equipment earlier in the game and is thus more valuable in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.
Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each level of the item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.
Moreover, certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be used to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items are available in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their items if it fails.
The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item may affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5percent.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects may be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
